The Volvo Penta folding hub kit for 3 bladed props is available as a Saildrive option for 110S, 120S, 120S-E, MS25S, 130S and 150S Saildrives or in different sizes for a tapered shaft. First, choose the correct hub kit for your shaft or Saildrive, and secondly choose the correct 3 blade kit, pr contact us, supplying us with the yacht model, displacement, engine and gearbox ratio. On a shaft, the hub kit uses a standard Metric or SAE taper and keyway size, dependant on the shaft diameter. Contact us for the keyway and taper standard measurements for each shaft if you are unsure.
As a guide:
The Saildrive hub fits 110S, 120S, 130S, 150S and MS25S drives
For 25 mm shaft, the key should be 6 mm, Shaft taper required, Metric 1:10
For 30 mm shaft, the key should be 8 mm, Shaft taper required Metric 1:10
For 1" shaft, the key should be 1/4”, Shaft taper required SAE 1:16
For 1 1/4" shaft, the key should be key 5/16”, Shaft taper required SAE 1:16
The pre-drilled hub is 8mm and will require final matching to a required shaft diameter, taper and keyway up to 31.75mm (1 1/4") shaft.
The correct 3 blade propeller is vital to get the most out of your engine and boat. The power range for the 3-blade propeller is 25-60 HP and it is available in 23 sizes with different pitches and a blade area of 36%. We can help to ensure the correct pitch is ordered. There is also a pre-drilled hub version with an 8 mm hole that requires final machining to the required shaft diameter and taper. It is, however, worth considering replacing the shaft with a standard taper version if the existing taper does not match standard Metric or SAE measurements.
If you need help in sizing your propeller, please call us first. The power range for the 3-blade propeller is 25-60 HP and the 4-blade propeller is 55-120 HP. To give an example of efficiency, a folding propeller will reduce a Chanel crossing by approximately 4- 5 hours.
The Volvo Penta 3 bladed hub is isolated from the Saildrive shaft electrically. This is why there is a hub anode fitted, to protect the prop. Some manufacturers folding props do not have a propeller anode fitted. We have seen corrosion and lower gearcase damage, particularly around the edge of the bearing housing on a Saildrive due to the propeller not having rubber bushing or an anode to galvanically isolate the propeller from the Saildrive. Any corrosion on the Saildrive should be repaired immediately to prevent more corrosion.
