Volvo Penta Aluminium Gimbal Housing Anode For SX up to 2007 and DP-SM Outdrives.
This is often called the smiley face Gimbal anode as it has eyes and a smiley mouth shape to it.
Genuine Volvo Penta Anodes are the OEM Aluminium anodes as fitted from new on your leg or Saildrive. The anode protects the drive, engine and propeller from corrosion due to electrical currents in the water. When you change your anode, make sure that it is not painted and that it has good contact with the bolts and metal surface of the drive.
If your anode is worn away by 33% or more, it is advisable to change it, as more of its surface area has been worn away and the remaining anode will wear away much quicker. This Aluminium version is suitable for salt or brackish water. The magnesium version is only suitable for freshwater.
