Volvo Penta diesel CAV fuel filter 3581078 twin pack.

This is a twin-pack replacement water fuel separator, filter part number 3581078, installed between the fuel tank and engine and known as a CAV filter. The housing is part number 877766 or 877767 or any other CAV-type filter housing.

This 3580178 twin pack is supplied with 12 O-rings and seals to completely service the fuel water separator. The thick metal casing is also painted with high-build gloss to protect it from corrosion. The superior filter medium used in the 3581078 filters provides 10-micron protection from water and diesel bug contamination.

Compared with many other CAV filters, 3581078 feels much heavier and is specially painted to fully protect the fuel filter.

The Volvo Penta fuel water separator is installed between the fuel tank and the engine. The lower part of the filter has a bowl which shows whether water or other impurities such as diesel bugs are present in the fuel. There is a bottom drain plug, to drain out any water or other contamination present. It is therefore easy to detect whether or not water or other impurities have accumulated.

A spare filter should always be carried on board in case a diesel bug or some other blockage occurs. You should also carry a spare impeller with a new gasket.
