Volvo Penta Yacht Propellers

Picture for category TYPE-Volvo Penta Propellers

We stock Volvo Penta fixed and folding propellers for Saildrives and shafts and give advice on fitting a new Volvo Penta propeller to your yacht. Genuine Volvo Penta fixed and folding propellers are made of nickel-bronze-aluminium alloy and designed specifically to perform, for safety and to resist corrosion. A folding prop can increase performance by up to 1.5 knots whilst under sail. At 8 knots, for example, a 3-blade fixed propeller produces more than six times the drag of a 3-blade folding propeller. All Volvo Penta folding propellers are made of a specially developed, highly corrosion resistant nickel-aluminium-bronze alloy.

The correct Volvo propeller is vital to get the most out of your engine and boat. If you need help in sizing your Volvo Penta propeller, please call us first for advice and correct sizing. The power range for the 2-blade propeller is 5-40 HP, the 3-blade propeller is 25-60 HP and the 4-blade propeller is 55-120 HP.

Typically, to give an example of efficiency, a folding propeller will reduce a Chanel crossing by 4 - 5 hours.

Genuine Volvo Penta fixed Saildrive propellers are coated in epoxy resin and rubber bushed to resist corrosion. If you are replacing your old fixed propeller with a new one, you will also need to replace the cone, as the new version does not use a plastic space washer. The fixed or folding propeller should be removed each year and re-greased using part number 828250, to prevent the prop from becoming stuck to the shaft.

For all folding props, choose a hub kit either for a Saildrive or shaft and then select the correct blade kit. Saildrives use left-handed props, and shafts mostly are right-handed. On a shaft, the hub kit uses a specific but standard ISO taper and keyway size, dependant on the shaft diameter. If you are unsure as to what shaft taper you currently have, then call us for the test measurements. They are not always standard and thus the hub will not fit on correctly. The correct propeller is vital to get the most out of your engine and boat. If you need help in sizing your propeller, please call us first on 01326 370060 or 07879 497940.
